1.
Teams are grouped into pools for round-robin play.
Teams will play each person in their pool. Depending on sizes of the
pools, games will be to 25 or 30 points. After round-robin play,
teams are ranked by their order of finish. All teams advance to the
playoffs, with the playoff schedule determined by round-robin placing.
2.
When teams are off for a match, they are required to keep
score for other scheduled games within their pool. Scorekeepers
ARE NOT required to be referees - teams are required to call their
own violations, and are expected to be honest and foster a high level
of sportsmanship at all times. If there’s any dispute, please
re-serve the point.
3.
A player may not block a serve or volley a serve reception.
Once the ball is in play, you may only volley the first hit if it is a
‘hard-driven ball’. This is defined as a ball hit with such force
that the person only has time to react to the hit by volleying the
ball. If the ball being played over the net has any arc, you can only
volley the first ball if it is ABSOLUTELY CLEAN (WITH NOT SPIN
WHATSOEVER). A second hit may be volleyed over the net, but only
if you are square to the path of the ball or if you are intentionally
setting your attacker for them to spike the ball (the ball is allowed
to drift over the net). The third contact may be volleyed over the
net, provided the player is square to the path of the ball (either
forward or backward).
4.
If a player blocking touches the ball on the block, it is
counted as the first touch. The blocker may play the ball of his/her
own block. These two contacts are counted as two touches. The next
contact must be returned over the net.
5.
Attack - A player is not allowed to complete an attack-hit
using an “open-handed tip” or directing the ball with the fingers.
6.
Players may play the ball off any part of their body,
including feet.
7.
Players may not touch the net at any time during play. A
player may cross under the net without violation, as long as they do
not touch anyone on the other team or interfere with them playing the
ball or make contact with the net. A player is then allowed to return
to their own side and play continues.
8.
Unlimited serves per player. Let serves are allowed
9.
In sunny or windy conditions, where one side of the court
offers an advantage, teams will change sides after every 10 points
scored.
10.
There are no referees, so we rely on your spirit of
sportsmanship and honesty to keep the matches fun and enjoyable for
all. If there is a dispute, please re-serve the point.
